    I’m 25 and have been brought up catholic. I decided from an early age that religion wasn’t for me and had a very negative perception of it. With the way the world is right now and the fears I have for its future, I feel this incredibly strong pull back to my born and raised religion. It’s a very strange feeling, anyone who knows me would be shocked honestly. But I can’t help feel comfort in the symbols and the prayers I once found so unimportant and mundane. I bought my first set of rosarys today. My first set since I was gifted them as a child on my first holy communion. I actually cried when I bought them. This is a very strange feeling that even I can’t rationalise with.

    Father I have a question I am a young content creator so don’t mind my name. I have a question why is it that everyone has different ways of praying it

    • @matthewcashmore
      @matthewcashmore 7 месяцев назад

      It's not so much that there are different ways of praying it, but rather there are different things you can do AROUND it. So the rosary is an Our Father, 10 Hail Mary's and a Glory Be at it's simplest level - beyond that you can add things, but if it doesn't have those three simple things it's not the rosary, it's something else - and that's cool if it's helping you find God.

    I love the sense of discipline and method. It's deeply spiritual. But i can't help feeling that by the end of each decade you've spent more time talking to Mary than to God. I don't think that's good?

    • @matthewcashmore
      @matthewcashmore 8 месяцев назад

      I'm not sure that's true... by the end of each decade you've Prayed an Our Father, quoted scripture 10 times, and offered a Glory Be... then in each decade you should be spending time dwelling in and praying with God. If you're praying TO Mary... you're doing it wrong! Pray TO God and ask Mary to pray FOR you... .does that make sense?

    • @antfaz
      @antfaz 8 месяцев назад

      But... for every Our Father you then say ten Hail Mary's, no? So doesn't that mean that you pray to God the Father once, then ask Mary for help in prayer ten times? Am I getting that wrong? I guess it would seem better to me to pray to the Father ten times and then ask Mary for help once? But maybe I'm misunderstanding... Thank you so much for answering me

    • @matthewcashmore
      @matthewcashmore 8 месяцев назад

      @@antfaz Yes I see where you're coming from, but the rosary is prayed as a whole - the whole thing offers a time to pray to God (with the support of His Mother). Sometimes, when we can't form our own prayers this can help us connect to God - that's the whole aim - a connection to God. If you're doing for another reason... you're doing it wrong! Remember to use the miseries to reflect on God, which ones do you find most helpful?

    • @antfaz
      @antfaz 8 месяцев назад

      @@matthewcashmore Thanks again for your reply. I'm actually Protestant, and pretty much given to the work of the Lord at my church because I felt that call. However, I have recently found myself thinking about Roman Catholicism and wondering if there's anything for me to learn from your approach. I am realising that there really is something deep and authentic in the devotion of the people I'm coming across, but yet so much I don't understand. I try to keep an open mind, I try to be willing to see things from others' perspectives. That's why I'm trying to understand how the rosary helps so many Catholics develop their relationship with God.

      @@antfaz Mary, just like God, has times where she is the main focus. She is after all the mother of God, therefore she deserves respect. The rosary isnt focused on God solely because he already has sooo much focus during prayer and mass. The rosary is one of the few times where our focus is on our mother.
